[Pen/Pencil Review] Zebra Fullst Mechanical Pencil – 0.05mm

Posted by reudaly on October 14, 2013 in Review, writing instruments |

Today’s review is another mechanical pencil. This one is from Zebra – which is a little different. I picked this one up at JetPens.com because it was plaid. I dig the plaid. I give you the Zebra Fullst Mechanical Pencil in a 0.05mm lead.

This is pencil is just fun. I picked the black barrel with the white spiral plaid pattern. It’s a sturdy plastic body with a bit of ergonomic grip in gray. The pencil is about 5.75″ long and has both a click mechanism to advance lead and the new(ish) shaker mechanism that also extends the lead. This pencil has a narrow, twist eraser that gives erasing a longer life – the eraser is about 0.75″ long and is refillable. The 11mm diameter gives it a “medium” width – not wide, not narrow. It’s fairly comfortable to use.

This pencil is cute, but I have to admit I thought I lost a cap when I photographed it. The eraser looks like it should have a cap but it doesn’t. It’s a little more expensive than I would want to spend on a plastic mechanical pencil, but that’s me. And it comes with standard HB lead, but with a fairly high density. I don’t see it breaking as much as past leads.

The numbers:

1. How does it work?1 It’s a decent mechanical pencil. The lead by clicking or shaking and retracts easily. The lead seems sturdy and less prone to breaking.
2. Grip and feel0.5 – It’s a plastic mechanical pencil with a nod to ergonomics. It more cute than designed for long term use, but there’s an attempt at being comfortable.
3. Material1 It’s plastic. If it’s recycled, no one says so. The clip is also plastic with a cool plaid print. It doesn’t claim to be anything more.
4. Overall Design1 -It’s a mechanical pencil. It’s got a good lead mechanism and a retractable eraser. It is what it is.
5. Price Point0.5 – This one is more expensive than what I expect from Zebra – and available pretty much through JetPens. I’m not seeing it on the US website. It’s $3.30, which for a plastic mechanical pencil is a bit more than I want to spend, but it’s cute and plaid.
