[Writer Post] Panic and Promotion – 2 Ps for the Holidays

Posted by reudaly on December 12, 2012 in Writing |

So this is Wednesday, and I’m in intermittent panic mode. Welcome to the holidays.

There’s a play I wrote that I’m the technical director for that stages on Sunday morning. We’ve finally had some rehearsals with the full cast…this week. But every time I think this thing is going down in flames, God shows me He is good and even with some rough patches the run throughs are a million times better than they probably should be. So no matter what happens — the church is getting what may be its very first original Christmas play this Sunday morning.

The other bits of intermittent panic is the fact that we’re less than 2 weeks away from Christmas and there’s barely any presents bought. I did manage to get the baking done (with 20 minutes to spare) that had to be done last weekend. We’ll see if those last minute Christmas miracles continue to happen.

Oh and WRITING yeah, I’m feeling the guilt on that front, too. Though I have spent some time with lovely fan and writerly types this past weekend, so I have the guilt identified. My words on paper counts make me sad – for lack thereof. BUT… that doesn’t mean I’m not working on writing.

My convention “season” starts up again in February. There are promotional items that need to be done before then to fully make use of the shows I have coming up. Discovered yesterday that a Facebook conversation I joined with Cat Rambo a while back turned into an article for SFWA. She mentions me in a nice paragraph that nearly had me spitting tomato basil soup on my monitor when I read it at lunch yesterday.

And yes, the promotional part of writing is part of the business end of writing and is just as important as the words on paper – really it is. So go take a gander at Cat’s article and pretend I said something brilliant here.
