[Spotlight Post] A Follow Spot Post of Several People

Posted by reudaly on July 12, 2013 in Spotlight |

It’s a Spotlight Friday… and this has been a strange week, so I think I’m going to do a “shotgun” spotlight post and do shout outs to a several people – most of whom have been in a spotlight before but have my attention at the moment.

Congratulations to Rachel Caine for the successful completion of her Kickstarter campaign to fund a Morganville Web Series featuring Amber Benson as Amelie. This is so cool, Jimmy and I were early (and kinda often) supporters of this project. We’ve known Rachel a long time and have seen what she’s been through to get this project DONE. The fact that Amber’s now involved? That’s just bonus points.

http://readrosemary.wordpress.com/ – if you’ve not started the Goodnight Family books. Do it now. Texas Gothic was very, very cool. Spirit and Dust is even better. Shows that the idea of a sequence of books – books that focus on some common element that can actually change – can work. This one is the Goodnight Family – each book features a different family member, but with some cameo drop ins for continuity. It’s good. Check it out.

Pacific Rim. We’re going out to see it tonight late (because we can), but also because our good friend, Allen Williams, was a first stage concept artist for the Kaiju. Allen’s other work with Guillermo del Toro, but this is the first project to make it to completion (so far) and his first IMDB credit. So we go to support him. And hey, it’s Jimmy’s kind of movie, and I do like things like Transformers and Voltron. So people in exoskeletons? Not a bad thing.

Oh, and last week I helped with an event with David Brin, Robert Sawyer, and Todd McCaffrey – our group helped sponsor an event with The Fort Worth Museum of Science and History. If you get a chance to see any one or all three of these men speak? Do it. They’re insightful and hysterical. And if you’re in the DFW area, dude, go check out the Museum. Their remodel is spectacular and they have some amazing exhibits going on right now in into the next year.

And now… back to your regularly scheduled Friday.
