As a writer, I’ve always had multiple jobs – writing plus whatever I had to do to pay bills. I’ve worked in a whole lot of industries…but the plan was to get to where I could write full time. Well, in a crazy way, that’s where I now am. Though I’m not writing fiction full time now, everything I do that brings in money to the household is now writing-related. And I feel the least amount of stress in the workplace than I ever have in the past. WHEE!!!

That doesn’t mean I’m giving up the rollercoaster ride that is fiction writing. No, sir. I love these ups and downs. And this week has already seen much of the gambit.

I have story notes for a piece I need to turn in…soonish. I hope it suits. It would be a great project to be in. But the notes will require work to incorporate and then another round of betas.

I had a short story come out in an ebook anthology just this week. It’s a horror anthology, but I have a lighter piece in it. This anthology features Joe Lansdale, Neal Barret Jr. and Scott Cupp, along with a bunch of us newer voices. It’s edited by Kasey Lansdale. The book is from Biting Dog Publications, and is called Fresh Blood Old Bones and is available (or will be) pretty much every where.

On Monday, my reminder popped up that said HarperVoyager was open to submissions for unagented writers for their digital line. Now, ideally, I like paper books. But for a Big Six, NYC, publisher? I’ll take this shot. Hands down. It’s still a great opportunity to try.

But then to keep me humble, I had a short story turned down by a certified pro market. Which is way more common than not. But it’s the nature of my industry. And that story will find a home someday.

Now I need to get back to writing…both day job and fiction. Because the key is to KEEP AT IT.
