Rhonda Eudaly

I have questions. So many questions. I’m hoping some of you have answers.

Question 1: If you have organized a book fair – message me, I want to learn about organizational challenges.

Question 2: How much interest do you think there would be for a Spec Fic Adult Book Fair? (Writers, I know YOU are, but do you think we could get AUDIENCE?)

Question 3: Does anyone know of a listing for all book fairs/events – kind of like we used to have for conventions? And/Or – besides trolling Instagram, anyone know where those are mostly advertised?

So here’s the dealio – I brought up this idea back in February when I was trying to figure out my life (still a work in progress) and it got some interest because writers want to sell books to people. Cool.

On my own, I tried to get into some of the book fairs I know about – and have failed, because (and absolutely no shade here), 90% are romance/romantasy based and figuring out my Weird and Ridiculous SF is daunting sometimes. I don’t fit in a neat package, which is by design. I know a horror writer who piggy backed into a bigger book fair with a fantasy person – and they get “hey, something I read!” things all the time.

I knocked some ideas around with that author, but we haven’t pulled triggers into finding places that will let us maybe do some of the things we’re thinking. Like genre specific events in the year…or an all genres but set up like a book store? So your mystery writers are in one corner, SF in another, etc. so folks know where to go to find the stuff they like but also have to go past things they may not know they like.

This all came back to mind last weekend when I was participating in a virtual live networking event through Inkers Con (which I have SO MUCH to go back and watch on the changing business of publishing). And there was a writer north of me who had no idea book events were happening all around her.

I think it’s time to actually look at how to make some of this happen – and some of it may be going to folks and not only asking if we can play in their sandbox, but also convince folks that there are OTHER writers of OTHER genres that can ALSO bring folks to the party. And also to OTHER PARTS of the DFW area that might not be in on the fun.

And…DISCUSS!
