[Writer Post] Changes…They Happen

Posted by reudaly on December 8, 2010 in Writing |

Changes are coming…it’s that time of year – moving into the Holidays and into a new year. So here… have some change. But I also have some questions for ya…

1. To Have a Facebook Fan Page or Not to Have a Facebook Fan Page – that is the pressing question at the moment.

Over the weekend, I created a Facebook Fan Page for the Four Redheads of the Apocalypse. We should’ve had one long ago. In less than 24 hours, we’ve already got about 60 people who “like” us. And it really hasn’t even propagated much yet.

However, I’ve always been leery of authors/artists doing the “So-and-So LIKES (identical) So-and-So and thinks you should too” posts. It seems weirdly self-serving. Or something. However, I’ve seen a couple of good articles on why it should be done. I do restrict some of my Facebook to people I’ve met. I can be a serial friender on a Fan Page. And there are things you can do with a fan page that you can’t do as well with a personal profile. I’m still debating that. What say you? Input required here.

2. Deadlines Loom – WOO HOO!!! New projects thought (short ones). I’m putting together my first FANZINE piece. Hopefully it’ll suit. Deadline’s Friday. I’m also starting to put together a short story for a new anthology. Not sure how that one’s going to go, but submissions aren’t until January, so I have time to get it working.

3. When the Party’s Over is now available for order in print form through the website. It makes a great holiday gift and can be signed and/or personalized. Order early, order often.

Now, it’s off to get stuff done.

  • Personally, I just don’t sent out those “I like Me” messages. Now and then, I do remind people that my fanpage is there, but many of the people on it have found it on their own. I love having it. It is a great place to do special things like contests or “extra” content, and it is a nice way to connect. Of course, when I started it, my “real” webpage was hard to update and hadn’t been touched in years. Now that that is back in easy-to-do land, the fanpage hasn’t gotten quite as many updates, but I still post specials and such there for my non-friend fans to see.
