[Writer Post] Of Deadlines and Phineas and Ferb

Posted by reudaly on August 17, 2011 in Writing |

Welcome to another completely disjointed post. I’m elbow deep in doing a section for a collaboration that’s stalling a little in my head (and on paper) but needs to be done this week. I’m letting my mind settle for a moment by working on the nitpicky line edits of my latest Redheads of the Apocalypse version. AND…and…and trying to ignore the plot bunny in my purse.

We had a FenCon meeting on Sunday – for those who are new, I am on FenCon’s staff as well as participating as a writer – after which we went to dinner with the “usual suspects” at our “usual” place – Snuffers in Addison. During this meal of abundant fried foods and decent burgers, Phineas and Ferb inevitably came up – as a plot bunny for me.

Actually, somehow we were talking about pigeons. I don’t even remember WHY we were talking about pigeons…but they came up. I mentioned a previous pigeon-related plot bunny revolving around my first trip to New York City with Nicole in 2001 – remember the black pigeons with red eyes? It was a Brimstone minion thing. This then turned into an “-inator” idea that would lead into Back Story…and then the Agent P/Doofenshmirtz part writes itself. Just have to come up with the Phineas and Ferb part. It’s all written on a napkin in my purse. Because yes, I could use a spec script of a modern show, and really an “episode” is only 15 minutes.

Unfortunately, no matter how the deadlines loom, I have feeling in the near future, “I know what we’re going to do today” will involve NOT working on what needs doing but the new plot bunny. Because that’s the way the GOOD plot bunnies work – and good friends who know just how to plant them when they’re least needed or expected. Vive la Plot Bunnies.

Now. Back to work…
