[Writing Post] Links, Writing, Revisions

Posted by reudaly on April 6, 2011 in Books, Writing |

For those who’ve been looking for Four Redheads by simply searching Baen’s Webscriptions, there is good news. The links have been fixed. If you don’t go to the site directly from one of the links from our websites, you can actually do an effective search now. What you do to search for us is make sure the Category Filter is set to All Categories. That should bring up the books. If you want – or someone you know – wants the bundle of books, click the “more information” option or search for “Bundles”.

Also, if you haven’t gone by 4 Star Stories to check out Defiance, please do. I’m so excited to be part of their inaugural issue. The Grays are good people who do good work. We need to support them. So go check out all four stories on 4 Stars Stories. Which reminds me, I don’t think I’ve added that link… bad me.

Last week I posted my grand battle plan for the next few months/year. There has been a bit of a change to that. For the short stories that are long enough to justify a 99¢ Kindle price. The shorter stories may be bundled and teased on the website, or put up on the website as a teaser to get folks to the e-formats.

This doesn’t include the Zombie Parrot story – that is currently out with Beta Readers now – that one will be sent out to markets (once I figure out who might want a zombie parrot story) for traditional publication first. Why? Well, I’m an old-fashioned girl. I like the idea of print. And, I admit, I’m vain enough to want to see my work in a book store. I really do.

But just because I finished the story doesn’t mean I’m sitting on my hands waiting for the Betas to get back to me. Oh, no. I’ve already had notes come back on my new Redheads piece. There is much work to be done on those revisions. This is not surprising. I knew it was coming. I really did. I wrote the first part while on cold medicine. The rest of it was written fast, and when you write with other people, more than one person may think something is brilliant and all write the same thing – but only one of those things should be in the story. OR I might think something is funny/brilliant/whatever – but it was funnier in my head than what came out on paper. That’s why we have each other. Now, I have to implement the changes. Whee.

Revisions are the oh, so glamorous (HAH) parts of writing (like typing) that newbies want to ignore. It’s all part of the “don’t wannas” that we all have to deal with. Fortunately, I have a cushy chair in my living room that will at least make it more comfortable. Because no matter how much we may not want to do this part of it, it has to be done and done soon. Don’t want to hold other people up. 😎

It’s a busy time for me as a writer. It’s a good thing. A very good thing. A busy writer is a happy writer. Remember that when you’re tempted to procrastinate. I know I will. 😎
