[Spotlight Post] Devin Pike – Entertainment Entrepreneur

As I try to get everything back to normal after two crazy, crazy months, it’s time to get back to spotlight posts. Yup. Back to normal – whatever that means. It occurs to me that I haven’t actually done a spotlight on someone I’ve mentioned several times… Devin Pike.

I met Devin – for apparently not the first time at the February Sci Fi Expo in Dallas. I was talking with Glenn Morshower when he came in from moderating the Battlestar Galactica Q & A panel. Glenn had some film production questions. I took that as my cue to get my hiney back down to my table.

I ran into him again the next day when I got completely turned around and couldn’t find the freakin’ fourth floor. We had a nice chat – he swears up and down we’ve met before (and he’s probably right – but the when and where, therein lies the mystery) – and clicked.

Between then and now, Devin’s started a documentary project called >Everything Doesn’t Suck and a Production Company with the most awesome name of Bacon Samurai. Because yes, Devin has an amazing sense of humor. Anyway the documentary is about the film industry not being destroyed by the internet. Check out the project, the Indiegogo campaign is over but I’m sure if you feel the need to support it, he’ll take any money thrown at him. Heck, he’s in the entertainment industry – any of us would take money if it were thrown at us.

Devin also hosts some amazing events that at some point I’ll be able to go to – like viewings of Star Trek: Into Darkness with a Robert Orci Q&A. And even when they go off into left field, he still gets to interview some amazing talent at the Sci Fi Exp shows. He’s also a Big Deal at the Dallas International Film Festival.

But he’s also Devin who wears red Converse Chuck Taylors to Dallas Comic Con – even though it’s hours upon hours on his feet – and snarfs down gluten free peanut butter maple cookies like they’re going out of style – but hey, those cookies scored me a Bacon Samurai t-shirt.

He still owes me the name of some his awesome screen printer/promotional stuff guy, but we’ve all been a little sleep deprived these last couple of months. And I can’t wait to see what the future holds being around him. Devin Pike is a force of nature – but definitely the good kind. He also knows Scarborough folk, so that’s just another notch in the “Good People” column.

So check him and his documentary out. I plan on seeing it when it comes out. Because it’s happening, man. And truly, if Devin asked and it’s humanly possible for me to help him with a project – I’m there. He’s just that cool.
