StrangeWords Article – Vanity Presses. Shocker!
Here’s the new StrangeWords Article – early on account of Thanksgiving, and with the Harlequin Horizons brouhaha — it’s one of those articles that writes itself.
Here’s my thing. I’m all for self-publishing — TRUE self-publishing. Where the writer finds the printer, does the copyediting and proofing, and does all the marketing — THEN KEEPS THE PROFITS. This is why I jump on POD stuff. POD is a TECHNOLOGY that lets true self-publishing and small/micro-presses exist in a tough economy – or any economy.
I DO NOT condone Vanity Presses – which is what this brouhaha is about – where YOU do the work. You get what editing you can come up with. You do the marketing, promoting, etc. They will do the printing, and for all YOUR work, THEY keep part of your profits. Um, no.
You can do all the edgy, indie stuff, just make sure you do it with eyes wide open.
