And…yeah, I didn’t get a December blog post done. December was hard for a number of reasons – as is the case for many people. Thank goodness for therapy!
2026 is starting out busy. Today is the only day I don’t have some kind of appointment. Today is not only a “back to writing day” in some way, but also CORRALLING THE CHAOS. Good luck to me! Yes, that’s my ridiculously out of control desk – or at least half of it – and it’s holiday stuff (mostly pens and pencils, not that anyone’s shocked by that). That makes today a catch up/putter day.
I did start the organizational things during vacation. We FINALLY did book inventory. I need to order a bunch of books for writerly things. Because starting in February? There are writerly things happening. Not only is FenCon coming up February 20-22, 2026, I will be doing a Book Fair on February 28 (more details to come). There’s a new Book Convention, Texas Book Lovers Con, in Denton July 18-19, 2026 that I’ll have a table at. Plus, very likely, some other Book Fairs, SoonerCon, and ArmadilloCon.
And yes, this means I need to write some stuff – which I actually want to do. I have a short story to finish in the next couple of weeks. I need to finish MANY things, which I’m actually movtivated to do. It’s been worth having the time and the therapy to get my creative head back on somewhat right. The burnout and stressors from previous Day Jobs are fading – like scars. There will always be marks from those experiences, but they’re fading. And yes, I am still looking for a Day Job, and trying to not let that just replace the stress I’ve let go.
So… now it’s time to reclaim the routine (routines at lovely! I’ve missed mine). Get stuff done. There are many things to take care of. Adulting is necessary but hard.
One of the goals to have a more active presence here. Hope you don’t mind.
