[Writing Post] Snow Days, The Splendor Falls, and Random Productivity

Posted by reudaly on February 2, 2011 in Life, Writing |

It’s SuperBowl® Week here in North Texas. In fact, we live about 2 miles from the Stadium. We planned to hibernate this week anyway to keep out of the crazy traffic and events. Then the weather hit. My Day Job Company has actually shut down for two days. My husband is “Essential Personnel” for his company. He’s had to go in. I’m on Dog Duty.

Before I forget…finished reading Rosemary Clement Moore’s The Splendor Falls. I knew I liked Rosemary’s Maggie Quinn books, so I wasn’t as hesitant to read this one as I have been with some authors I know – but I knew it would be different. It was. Darker, a bit twisty, and I wondered – for the most part – where it was going the entire way to the end. Totally Recommended – for all ages. This one makes me wonder what her new book, Texas Gothic, is going to be like and not want to wait for July to find out.

Anyway…Yesterday was a productive “Write at Home” day. I got word count in. My section done and sent back to a collaborator for the SuperSekrit Project. Redheads on tap for today. I need to plow through the draft and see where the fixing needs to happen. This is where I like having writing partners. They see things I don’t.

Probably about to do something I didn’t think I’d do for a while yet…turn down a publisher. The editing notes were awesome. I’m going to totally take those. The rest of it…well, there’s just something in my gut that says, this can be better going a different way. So I’m going to listen to the gut.
Now, I’m going to go write, run herd on the dogs, and clean my house. I’m already getting antsy about not being able to leave the house (but at least we have power), and will need to channel that energy somewhere. We have friends coming into town over the next couple of weeks, and it’s overdue. So it’s all a win-win. Huzzah for snow days…
