[Spotlight Post] Larry Launders – Christmas Co-Conspirator

Posted by reudaly on December 7, 2012 in Life, Spotlight |

I’m having a “GAH” day, I think. I know I’ve called this the “Tis the Season for Time Management”, but this is getting out of hand. I had a couple of other things crop up into my week this week that weren’t planned and now have thrown off the delicate balance that I had going. One of those being, “HOLY COW! How did it get to be Friday???? I need a Spotlight Post!” And… my capacity for creative ideas went out the window this morning when I wrote a product description this morning with FOUR Huey Lewis & the News song titles incorporated into it… there was a challenge yesterday. It had to be done.

But now…yikes. I need to highlight someone. Maybe I’ll go out on a limb and do a semi professional actor… especially since he’s one of the reasons my carefully orchestrated, time-managed, holiday house-of-cards schedule is swirling out of control…

Larry Launders is my partner-in-drama for this Christmas Play we’re doing in just over a week at our church. He also grew up next door to Jimmy. So there’s more of this full circle of life stuff that’s surrounded my relationship with my husband. A couple of years ago Larry and I starred together in the annual Christmas Play at Arlington Community Church. Last year I was just in the choir but we brainstormed what we could do that was Different.

The next thing I know I’m writing the idea he and I came up with. People loved it. Larry’s starring in it – I was going to make him take some credit for writing it – until there was some external drama. This led to Larry now being star and director. Since we kinda tag-teamed the writing (I ran the script by him to make sure it was the idea and still stayed funny and relevant), he’s made me tag-team the directing since he’s on-stage.

Larry’s pulled a lot of good stuff out of our rag-tag group of actors. He’s the one who introduced me to Ken Farmer – and Farmer’s acting methods to all of us. He’s done some other regional theater work that’s gotten some acclaim. And he wants this play to be awesome, so he’s arranging time for other rehearsal which then plays Whack-A-Mole with *my* schedule, because I, too, want it to be awesome.

If you want to see Larry in action – and see if we can pull off our Christmas endeavor – you can! Sunday December 16th at 10 am at Arlington Community Church, 1715 W Randol Mill Rd, Arlington, Texas 76012-3037. You can see if we make Christmas magic…now to finish out my day with Day Job and Christmas Baking. At some point I do have to manage to find time to shop…ACK!
