A couple of months ago, I signed up for InkersCon. I didn’t do a lot of the live things because of timing – but I have the recordings and some are really good. I made sure I signed on for the organizational session because that’s always been a challenge for me.

The presenter showed how she uses a Disc Bound notebook to organize her releases. These were probably more popular several years ago, but you can still find them. Happy Planner is one of the more known brands – I got one at the “letter” size at Target ages ago for $5 (the sticker is still on it).

I decided to try using it it seemed infinitely customizable. And then I started looking at the planners and sizes and discovered – after spending way too much down THAT rabbit hole – that no matter the size of planner/notebook cover (there are several from “mini/junior” to my behemoth – mostly in UK sizes of paper) that the spacing between the seemingly random number of discs (depending on size) is uniform. Every disc bound notebook has 25mm between discs – and you can get hole punches for them.

Those hole punches are EXPENSIVE but I have invested in a full sized one and a four-hole one (because it was cheaper but I don’t have the dexterity to make it work on all sizes). Because I don’t HAVE to spend money on specific paper, I can adapt what I have to what I need. And I have…

Do I know how long this will last? Nope. There may be something shinier in my future, but for now, I love this for flexibility. Who knows, I may change out the discs and covers when/if I decide I want something snazzier or hardbacked. But for now? This is working. I can keep my various projects together. The mini one fits in my purse for when I’m out and inspiration hits, which it has. The bigger notebook travels easily in the backpack when needed. The pages are easily reordered or transferred. The punches are small enough to not interfere with 3-hole punch for moving pages to a 3-ring binder.

It’s working for me. If it’s something that looks good for you – just know, unless you DIY it off Amazon (which is possible), this is an investment unless you find clearance or sales. I’m watching for 2027 planner inserts for the calendar I bought that aren’t academic school year. But it is something that might be worth the investment, mostly for the “any size paper” part if you spring for the hole punch.
